There will be no segregation of men and women on Brigade Road and MG Road on New Year's Eve but stringent action will be taken against those who go around wishing people forcibly, the city police said on Wednesday. T. Sunil Kumar, Police commissioner of Bengaluru city said, "We will deploy 2000 policemen including 500 women personnel and 250 CCTV cameras will be placed in the Brigade road and adjacent streets". Officers did not pursue, and a short distance later, the driver of the Grand Am lost control, struck a utility pole and the vehicle started on fire. Police say the 16 year old driver had a valid license and no criminal record. Schlei and Reid will both be nominated for an MPD Merit Award, "and the Department is grateful for their heroic actions", the statement added. Police say officers attempted to pull over a auto a few blocks away that matched the description of suspect's vehicle in a homicide about a week earlier. Police said the driver exited the vehicle but had his hand in his pocket. The officer then opened fire, striking the man in the chest. Based on the brightness, the object was likely a space rock somewhere between the size of a toaster and a refrigerator when it entered the atmosphere, said Geoff Chester, spokesman for the U.S. The bright flash visible from several states was apparently left by a meteor burning up as it passed through Earth's atmosphere. The image of the white trail of light has been captured on a webcam which is operated by the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Program in York, Maine. (more...)
