The low results in math also show up in the board's Grade 3 and 6 students. Since the course opened up, more than 30 female officers have attempted it and failed. After graduation, the woman is expected to lead a platoon of infantry Marines, according to the Post . At least one of those four women attempted the course twice, but did not complete it. A worker has died in a fall from a residential high-rise construction site in New York City's financial district. Another man was airlifted off of a large ship near Staten Island Thursday afternoon after police said he fell 35 feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene. (more...)

Tropical storm force winds will continue over the ocean waters east of Fire Island Inlet. Clouds associated with Jose stretched from North Carolina up to Nova Scotia, Canada. "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft from the U.S. Air Force examined Jose on Wednesday and concluded it was a "strong" storm, officials said.
