On June 24, the Devendra Fadnavis-led government had announced Rs 34,022 crore farm loan waiver, where nine million farmers are expected receive the benefits. The extension comes in the backdrop of severe criticism over technical glitches in centers set up to help farmers enroll for the loan waiver scheme. Total UK aid has reached £57 million so far. May's spokesman said the OECD rules do not "stop Britain dedicating the money needed for the hurricane recovery and reconstruction effort". But he denied the UK had been slow to react, as did Prime Minister Theresa May, who told MPs in the Commons: "The UK response was a speedy one".
