The furniture and equipment of the airport terminal appeared to be soaked and smashed, with debris strewn across the runway and on the buildings. Irma now has maximum sustained winds of 175 miles per hour. Severe damage can be seen inside the airport, including check-in counters and terminal areas. Drinking water and electrical systems on St. Maarten are down, and the Princess Juliana Airport has been described as destroyed . (more...)

Putin said North Korea would not give up its nuclear program no matter how tough the sanctions. In another executive order Thursday, Governor Nathan Deal expanded his first order to include 24 additional counties, for a total of 30 Georgia counties now in a state of emergency. Deal also issued a mandatory evacuation order for all areas east of I-95, all of Chatham County and some areas west of I-95 that could be impacted by potential storm surge from Hurricane Irma.
