China bans imports of iron, coal, and seafood from North Korea from today, Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Although they are both much smaller sources of export revenue for North Korea, the two industries have seen a rise in exports this year. Security Council and voted for strict sanctions against North Korea's exports-after it had voiced opposition to using sanctions. But its proposal for the North to suspend its nuclear programme while the U.S. halts military drills in the region has been ignored. Gert is no threat to land and is expected to pick up some strength, turn to the northeast and accelerate into the far northern Atlantic before dissipating in coming days. Swells producing unsafe rip currents in the mid-Atlantic states will be possible as Gert moves by into early Wednesday morning.
