Moscon finished an impressive fifth at Paris-Roubaix past year and third in the Tour of Lombardy, before helping Froome to claim overall victory in the 2017 Tour of Spain. Moscon was past year accused of deliberately causing Sebastien Reichenbach (FDJ) to crash during the Tre Valli Varesine, but the UCI disciplinary committee dropped the case in June citing a lack of evidence. At the age of 35, he becomes the first Italian player ever to win a major, after keeping his cool in remarkable fashion when nearly all around him seemed to be losing theirs on a warm but windy afternoon on the Scottish coast. It will be interesting to see going forward, but this was his first taste of major championship drama for quite a while. His two children, Sam and Charlie, aren't old enough to have witnessed how incredible Woods can really be on the final day of a major. (more...)
