Elephants Without Borders found in an aerial survey that as many as 87 recently-killed pachyderm carcasses with their tusks removed, sure signs of an explosive poaching epidemic. CDT (2100 GMT) was about 45 miles (75 km) northwest of Jackson with maximum sustained winds of 30 miles per hour (45 km per hour), the Weather Prediction Center said . The storm later weakened into a depression on Wednesday, dumping heavy rains across southern states. This is the first confirmed death possibly related to Tropical Storm Gordon. (more...)

Gordon was located about 190 east, southeast of the mouth of the MS, moving west, northwest at 15 miles per hour Tuesday morning, with sustained winds of 65 miles per hour. It is moving to the west-northwest at 12 miles per hour. The minimum central pressure is 984 mb. Florence is expected to stay out to sea. Five white rhinos were also found to have been killed over the last few months. The sudden rise in poaching incidents followed the disarming of Botswana's anti-poaching unit in May. The current deaths are said to have happened weeks back and further in the country close to the protected Okavango Delta wildlife sanctuary. As this leak is not actually in part of the space station itself, but in a temporary attachment, there should not be any long-term issues from the incident. The hole was discovered on Wednesday in a Russian capsule. Russian Federation is expected to provide rides for astronauts through November 2019, which is the planned return date for a Soyuz capsule from the space station, according to a July report to Congress from the Government Accountability Office. Tropical Storm Gordon was already battering South Florida on Monday as meteorologists issued tropical storm warning for the region from the Florida Keys to the upper Gulf Coast. Beyond Florence, models consistently show a string of potent tropical waves leaving Africa, so the peak of the season should be active. Going into next week it will start to move into the Gulf of Mexico where it will encounter somewhat more favorable conditions to develop, and could start to get its act together. (more...)

NASA officials said the small leak was discovered around 7 p.m. Wednesday by flight controllers in Houston and Moscow while the crew was sleeping, but because the leak was so minor mission control did not wake the astronauts. Astronauts are continuing to try and plug the leak but NASA and Russian officials have stressed the six astronauts are not in any danger. The 402km-high outpost is home to three Americans, two Russians and one German. (more...)

Mexico's Environmental Protection Agency says the turtles drowned after getting tangled in a net used for river fishing . They had been dead for about eight days when local residents reported them. The endangered olive ridley turtles descend on various Mexican states to lay their eggs from May to September. Experts said asphyxiation, fish hooks or harmful algae could have killed the turtles, but the cause is still being investigated , PROFEPA said. (more...)

The six-member crew is now repairing the leak, which was found not on the station itself but on the Russian Soyuz ship docked there. The six crew members on board the International Space Station awoke to some news you never want to hear when you're hurtling through space at almost 30,000 km/h - while they slept, NASA controllers on the ground had detected a small leak in part of the station, as air slowly vented into space. One of the goats involved in the study that showed goats prefer positive human faces, at Buttercups Sanctuary in Kent. For people who own and love goats, this probably isn't a huge surprise, but it's the first scientific evidence of how goats read human emotional expressions, demonstrating that it's not just better known companion animals such as horses and dogs that can read our faces.
