According to the report, 1.6 million cases were chlamydia, and there were 470,000 cases of gonorrhea and nearly 28,000 primary and secondary syphilis cases. There was a 36 percent increase in rates of syphilis among women and a 28 percent increase (more than 600 cases) in syphilis among newborns (congenital syphilis) during the time of the report.
