Spurs legend Tony Parker retiring from National Basketball Association after 18 seasons

Tony Parker

He played 17 seasons for the San Antonio Spurs and made the post-season every year of his career before joining the Hornets last season and missing the playoffs.

Additionally, he told The Undefeated, he'll open an global school in Lyon, France, called the Tony Parker Adequat Academy. "And being away from the family back in San Antonio, too, that played a little bit of a role [in retiring], and so I came to a conclusion that it was just time to move on".

Parker put up 9.5 points and 3.7 assists per game for the Hornets this season but it was an adjustment for the guard to begin a campaign without a reasonable chance of competing for an National Basketball Association title.

Parker, 37, won four NBA titles (all with the San Antonio Spurs) and was named to four All-NBA teams. Parker told The Undefeated that his body is still in playing shape and he could play at least two more years, but the time to hang it up seemed clear. We had a great run and can't wait to beat you up on tennis and spending more time together'.

After 16-years in the NBA, Wade announced that the 2018-2019 NBA season would be his last. I have a lot of great stuff in my life. The former No. 5 overall pick was a three-time NBA champion, 2006 NBA Finals MVP, 13-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA First Team member. But at the same time, now I don't see any reason to play 20 seasons. "I have so much stuff going on that I've always been at peace with that decision". The game of basketball is for young guys.

Even if Parker only saved a part of his money, he should still have more than enough in the bank to make sure he never works again.

"It never gets old, and so that's why it was nice to win with my women's team, because winning championships is hard to explain to somebody how you feel", shared Parker. Parker turned down a player's option for next season with the Hornets that would have paid $5.25 million.

Basketball fans abound are celebrating Parker's 18-year NBA career on social media today, in the wake of his announcement.
