Another American tourist dies during Dominican vacation

A Baltimore woman said that her son mysteriously died on a vacation in the Dominican Republic in 2018, adding that she made a decision to speak out after seeing reports of other American tourists dying in resorts under unusual circumstances.

Robert Bell Wallace, 67, died in April while staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana. Miranda Schaup-Werner, a Pennsylvania woman, died nearly four weeks later, on May 25, after she had a drink from her minibar at another hotel, the Bahia Principe La Romana. Wallace eventually died the next day, on April 14.

Despite more tourists canceling their vacation plans to the island and various theories as to what is causing the deaths, Dominican Republic Tourism Minister Francisco Garcia insisted at a press conference last week that the country had received more than 30 million visitors in the last five years without any widespread concerns about health issues at its resorts.

On Friday, a Colorado couple told CNN they are suing the resort the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana resort, where Day and Holmes stayed, after falling ill last June.

On May 25, Miranda Schaup-Werner, an Allentown, Pennsylvania psychotherapist, 41, collapsed shortly after mixing a drink from the minibar in the Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville, where she was celebrating her 9th wedding anniversary with husband Daniel Werner.

The resorts said they are cooperating with authorities. He was in the Dominican Republic to attend his stepson's wedding, according to Arnold.

"It makes me question at this point, is this cause of death even true", Nieves said.

"He was fine", Arnold told Fox News. 'We don't want this to happen to anyone else'. Her obituary simply states she died suddenly on June 23, 2018 while in the Dominican Republic.

So far Investigators say there are no medical connections to link the deaths. Dominican authorities also ruled his death was due to pulmonary edema and a heart attack.

Other family members of American tourists then came forward, including Felecia Nieves, who said her sister, Yvette Monique Sport, died in June of past year at the Bahia Principe resort in Punta Cana.

Two other deaths that have recently come to light occurred more than a year apart at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in the resort town of Punta Cana.

She said that her son, who was a veteran, "was healthy".

It wasn't clear if Holmes and Day drank from the minibar, and their deaths were attributed by officials to respiratory failure.

As a result of the erroneous information that has been published, with which we do not agree, Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts has suffered great damage to its image and reputation.

Kaylynn Knull said she and her boyfriend enjoyed their vacation until they noticed their room beginning to smell of chemicals.
