Jupiter Is Putting On a Show for You

This whole month gives up excellent viewing opportunities. That's when it will be highest in the night sky. This is because Jupiter will be at opposition, when it is opposite side of the Earth than the sun.

Jupiter, the mighty "king" of the planets in our solar system, is usually seen for those who know the place and when to search for it, however, the subsequent week will likely be a very particular time for anybody who needs to catch a glimpse of the fuel abundant.

Jupiter comes to "opposition" every 13 months.

If you're into astronomy, you'll want to venture outside Monday night. Disruptive clouds are also in the forecast for much of the central United States and Canada.

In a "skywatching tips" put up for June, NASA says Jupiter is "at its largest and brightest this month, rising at the mud and remaining seen all night".

On June 10, Jupiter will reach opposition, meaning it will be in a straight line with Earth and the sun, with the Earth in the middle of the two giants. This month Jupiter and its Moons can be seen from Earth. "In fact, there are plenty of telescopes out there that are cheaper than a pair of binoculars", Samuhel said.

On a good night, you will be able to see the planet with the naked eye, however if you get your bins out, you should be able to see its four biggest moons (it has 79 in total). One can see Jupiter and three of its largest moons over the Wasatch Mountains. You will see a bright star shining in the horizon, but it's not a star, it's Jupiter.
