Pregnant woman killed; baby cut from womb still alive

The father of Marlen Ochoa-Lopez surrounded by family members prepares to identify his daughter's body

A pregnant woman who had gone to a Chicago home in response to a Facebook offer of free baby clothes was strangled and her baby cut from her womb, U.S. police and family members say.

A body found behind a home on Chicago's Southwest Side has been identified as that of a 19-year-old pregnant woman who disappeared last month.

About 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, the medical examiner's office was notified of a body at the 77th Place address.

The baby is now in hospital in "grave condition", according to sources close to the family.

Marlen Ochoa-Lopez disappeared on the same day that a woman made a 911 call in April about a newborn baby having trouble breathing, Chicago police said.

At least seven people are now being questioned by police in connection to Ochoa-Uriostegui's death.

Police said Ms Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, 19, who was lured to the home of someone she knew on April 23 with the promise of free baby supplies, was instead strangled to death, and her baby extracted from her womb.

Police then conducted DNA tests, which showed that Ochoa-Lopez and her husband, Yiovanni Lopez, were actually his parents, Walker said.

The baby is hospitalized in grave condition.

When detectives interviewed Clarisa Figueroa at the hospital, she told them she had met Ochoa-Lopez previously but that the victim had not visited her the day she went missing, police said. The motivation was unclear, but Johnson speculated the Figueroas may have wanted to "raise the child as their own".

The screen shots show that another group member responded, asking Ochoa-Lopez if she could wait a week. That almost full-term baby survived, but the mother, Debra Evans, and two of her other children were killed. He and Ochoa-Lopez have another 3-year-old son, reported The AP.

"She was giving clothes away, supposedly under the pretense that her daughters had been given clothes and they had all these extra boy clothes", said Cecelia Garcia, spokeswoman for the Ochoa-Uriostegui family, reports WLS. She found eight women who did, including one who escaped and killed the woman trying to kill her and take the baby. He did and then hired a private investigator, who Cortes said helped find Ochoa-Lopez's auto near the home where her body was found.

Piotr Bobak, 40, whom police described as Clarisa Figueroa's boyfriend, was charged with concealing the murder.

Cortes, the pastor, said Ochoa-Lopez's husband tried to immediately report her missing to the police, but was told to come back in 72 hours.

The baby, given the name Yadiel Yovany Lopez by the family, is on life support and has no brain function, family members said.

On May 8, more than two weeks after the ambulance call, Ms Ochoa-Lopez's black Honda Civic was found abandoned in the 7700 block of South Keeler Avenue, a few blocks from where her body was discovered.

"Due to the fact that I'm in school and can't work at the moment, I can't afford to buy the rest of the things since I'm short on cash right now", Ochoa-Lopez wrote.

The family of Ochoa-Lopez held a news conference Friday morning at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse, pleading with State's Attorney Kim Foxx to deny bond to the three suspects.
