Northern Ireland's abortion ban is even tougher than Alabama's

Alabama governor signs bill, banning virtually all abortions, into law

On Tuesday, Alabama's state senate voted to outlaw abortion in the USA state.

The senator from MA also urged passage of legislation that would stop states from passing constraints on abortion providers that are built to avoid violating the 1973 Roe decision, in which the Supreme Court recognised the constitutional right to an abortion. "Because we have known since the "70s that Roe v. Wade stands on a weak foundational basis". "And so the time to act is now".

Warren's abortion rights platform, released Friday by her Democratic presidential campaign, centres on the establishment of "affirmative, statutory rights" that would "block states from interfering in the ability of a health care provider to provide medical care, including abortion services", and sets similar restrictions on states' power to block patients from getting medical care, including abortions.

Missouri's anti-abortion bill includes exceptions for medical emergencies but not for pregnancies caused by rape or incest.

Doctors who perform abortions more than eight weeks into pregnancy would face five to 15 years in prison, the Associated Press reports.

The bill passed the Senate early Thursday morning by a 24-10 vote, as NPR member station St. Louis Public Radio reported.

But supporters of the Alabama ban said the right to life of the fetus transcended other rights, an idea they would like tested at the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Politicians are putting the health and lives of Missouri women at risk in their race to make our state the one that overturns Roe v. Wade at the Supreme Court", M'Evie Mead of Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri said in response to the vote.

"Missouri Governor Parson should be ashamed of riding the disgraceful coat tails of 25 white men in Alabama who just voted to ban safe, legal abortion", Ms Wen said. As citizens of this great country, we must always respect the authority of the U.S. Supreme Court even when we disagree with their decisions."Many Americans, myself included, disagreed when Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973". A spokesperson told WHNT News 19 that the ACLU Alabama chapter has already seen a spike in donations and attention on social media.

There's still a ban on abortions at eight weeks, but there's no longer a ban on abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.

Here's what Warren's abortion plan proposes.

The state would join Alabama and several other states that have moved recently to severely restrict terminations.

Another element of Warren's abortion-rights proposal urges passage of legislation that would prevent the government from imposing abortion-related restrictions on private health insurers. Some required abortion clinics to meet the same requirements as ambulatory surgical centers, including having certain room sizes and hallway widths. Current law requires consent from only one parent.

NY congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues to use social media to call out politicians who have voted to enact stricter abortion laws.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - MAY 11: Thousands of anti-abortion supporters take part in the "March For Life" through Westminster followed by a rally in Parliament Square on 11 May, 2019 in London, England. "Congress should act to ensure that the will of the people remains the law of the land". It makes M4A look like a back door to using taxpayer money to fund abortions, which ... it is.

We suggest getting to know the reproductive rights organizations and abortion funds in states now threatened by abortion bans.
