The Fire Department said it got its first call about the crash at around 2:30 p.m.

A second person at the helipad suffered injuries, possibly from debris from the crash, and was treated at the scene, CBS New York said.

Fire department officials said that he was pulled from the Hudson River on May 15.

The source said Morales had just refueled and was moving the helicopter to an area where customers are picked up at the heliport, taking a route that made him briefly fly over the Hudson. The aircraft came down quickly, but it wasn't in freefall.

BNO News tweeted a video taken by a bystander that shows the moment the helicopter crashed. Its blades were rotating.

They thought it might be a stunt.

Pregnant woman killed; baby cut from womb still alive
The baby, given the name Yadiel Yovany Lopez by the family, is on life support and has no brain function, family members said. She found eight women who did, including one who escaped and killed the woman trying to kill her and take the baby.

But what kept it from totally sinking were inflatable pontoons that deployed as the aircraft was about to hit the surface of the water.

"The next thing you know, it was out of sight", Mr Raisley said.

In 2009, US Airways pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger famously landed an Airbus A320 with 155 people safely on the Hudson River off Manhattan after it struck a flock of geese and lost power.

He described his reaction: "Just shock".

The helicopter was a Bell 206, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said.

The helicopter is operated by Blade chopper service, which operates a shuttle service between Manhattan and local airports.

The aircraft has since been transported to land as the National Transportation Safety Board looks further into what caused the emergency landing, the NYPD Special Ops team reports on Twitter. "The helicopter is tied to the pier at this time".
