Allegri axed by Juventus after Champions League flop

Massimiliano Allegri

Juventus have announced head coach Massimiliano Allegri will leave the club at the end of this season.

"Massimiliano Allegri will not sit on the Juventus bench in the 2019/20 season", an official statement, as translated from Italian, reads.

Juventus won Serie A four weeks ago, but the season has been considered a failure after they were eliminated by Ajax in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The 5: Ramifications of the Patrick Peterson PED suspension

Britney Spears may never perform again, says manager

He had arrived at Juventus six months after being sacked by AC Milan, whom he had led to the Serie A title at the first attempt in 2011 after earning coaching plaudits at Cagliari.

This placed huge scrutiny on Allegri, with Juventus desperate to end their 23-year wait to lift Europe's biggest club prize, and the club have now confirmed they will be seeking a new manager in the summer. "I'm not going to go to Juventus, I am not going to move to Italy", Guardiola said in a news conference ahead of the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Watford at Wembley (11:55 a.m. ET, ESPN+).

Other names in the hat are Simeone Inzaghi of Lazio or Sinisa Mihajlovic of Bologna, but they are perhaps not quite of the proven calibre Juventus seek to replace a coach who has essentially been a guarantee of domestic dominance for half a decade. He will depart the club following their final Serie A game of the season against Atalanta on Sunday with Juve already crowned champions of Italy once again. "I'm staying here for two more seasons, as long as City still want me". However, it seems Pep might simply be a pipedream for Juve: speaking on Friday, he told reporters: "How many times do I have to say?" To win the Champions League with Tottenham, in this circumstance, in this season, maybe I need to think a little bit to do something different in the future, for sure.
