Boy thrown from Mall of America balcony still hospitalized

Bloomington Minn. Police Department shows Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda who was arrested in connection with an incident at the Mall of America where a 5-year-old boy plummeted three floors Friday

A GoFundMe campaign had raised $320,000 by early Sunday for the 5-year-old boy who suffered life-threatening injuries when a deranged stranger flung him off a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. My daughter is 4.5 years old... "Landen we love you so much buddy". "Oh, my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" Brian Johnson told WCCO.

Potts said one witness ran after Aranda as he fled the scene and tried to stop him.

Bloomington police Chief Jeffrey Potts told CNN on Saturday.

"This is a horrific situation", Potts said.

The family posted about the awful incident on social media, and a GoFundMe was started to raise money for the family during this horrific time of need.

He said: "We do have prior contacts with this individual".

Court records show the suspect was charged following two previous run-ins with police and security officers at the megamall.

"He was enjoying a day at the Mall of America with his mum and friend on Friday morning when a stranger maliciously grabbed him and threw him over the third-floor balcony for no apparent reason", the page says.

He reiterated that the family did not know Aranda and said they "are completely clueless as to why this monster would target their family with this heinous act of violence".

"We think this is a very isolated incident", he said.

A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident that happened Friday.

He was accused three months later of throwing glasses of ice water and tea at a woman in a restaurant at the mall after she refused to buy him food, the records show.

Aranda in that case told authorities he got "angry after he read something on the Facebook" and so smashed five computers, screens and keyboards, court records show, citing a recorded statement.

In July 2015, he was arrested at the Mall of America on three misdemeanor charges - property damage, disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace officer - after police say Aranda threw items from the upper level of the mall to the lower level. In a separate 2015 incident, Aranda threw a glass at an employee at a restaurant and was arrested and charged with trespassing, fifth-degree assault, obstructing the legal process and disorderly conduct, police said.

Police were called to the Mall of America in Bloomington this morning after the man, who is not thought to be of any relation, allegedly threw Landen from the balcony.
