Barr Has A 'Team' Looking Into The Mueller Investigation

Here’s the evidence of Russian involvement in Trump’s campaign cover up — based on public records

Nita Lowey (D-NY) laid into Attorney General William Barr at his budgetary hearing before the House Appropriations Committee. That letter said that Mueller did not find a criminal conspiracy between Russian Federation and Trump associates, and that Barr did not believe the evidence in the report was sufficient to prove the president had obstructed justice. Like members of the House on Tuesday, senators are expected to be more interested in the almost 400-page document than the budget details.

Though he said the document will be redacted to withhold negative information about peripheral figures in the investigation, he said that would not apply to Trump, who is an officeholder and central to the probe.

At Tuesday's hearing, Democrats said they were concerned that a four-page summary letter of the report's main conclusions Barr released last month portrayed the findings in an overly favorable way for President Trump.

William Barr, 68, appeared on Capitol Hill yesterday to talk about budget matters but faced complaints about his letter of March 24 in which he said that the special counsel Robert Mueller had cleared the Trump presidential campaign of conspiring with Russian Federation, and that there was evidence both for and against obstruction of justice. Barr, who reportedly objected to this move by the administration, grew testy and combative when asked about the shoddy legal reasoning behind the decision, suggesting he's not particularly pleased with Trump for putting him in this position. Barr promised that the report would be ready "within a week", but spoke about it in tones meant to imply that it was of no more general interest than, say, a USDA report on fertilizer levels.

Barr said he did not believe the evidence in the report was sufficient to prove the president had obstructed justice. When asked if he has shown or discussed the report with the White House, Barr notably declined to answer. But the issue is sure to get more attention when Barr appears Wednesday before the panel's GOP-led Senate counterpart.

"I felt I should state bottom-line conclusions, and I tried to use special counsel Mueller's own language in doing that", he said.

Barr said he was reviewing his department's actions in investigating Trump.

Barr's statement that he expected to release a redacted version of Mueller's almost 400-page report next week marked a slight change from the estimate he gave Tuesday, when he said the release would be within a week. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

Across the Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he had no concerns with the handling of the report: "I think it really comes down to a question of whether you trust Bill Barr or not".

Barr said that even in providing the full report to Congress, which he said he would do by the end of the week, he still may have to black out some portions for security purposes.

Lowey then noted that Barr wrote a memo, before even being hired as attorney general, arguing that the president can not obstruct justice. He noted that every page of the Mueller report was marked sensitive and that nothing in the special counsel's submission was "sanitized" for immediate release.

Barr, who was nominated to his post by Trump four months ago, was asked about spying by Republican Sen.
