Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 'Defeat 'is a big step backwards'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called Manchester United's performance their poorest under him

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists they can go for the lot.

The Norwegian said his team's performance in the 2-1 defeat at Molineux was the "poorest" of his time in charge at Old Trafford as United slumped to back-to-back defeats for the first time since Jose Mourinho's final two games as manager.

Asked whether this defeat could harm his chances of becoming permanent manager, Solskjaer replied: "I'm here until the summer, we've got loads to play for in the league and the Champions League". With an global break meaning it will be two weeks before he gets his players back for a tricky Premier League clash vs. Watford at Old Trafford, he has time to ponder the challenge he faces to get United back on track and ensure something tangible is salvaged from a rollercoaster ride of a season. It's the poorest performance since I've come here.

Solskjaer will hope it is just a temporary slump, but the fight is now right on for the top four and Champions League opponents Barcelona will not lose a wink of sleep after watching United here. "Of course we are disappointed, everyone is disappointed with the result today".

"It's something natural, you can not perform to the top of your levels every single time", said Solskjaer. Hopefully some of them will have good experiences with the national teams and some will have a few days off.

"So, there's so many things that we need to think about".
