Vietnamese woman in N Korea murder case loses bid for release

Malaysian authorities have rejected a plea to drop the murder case against Doan Thi Huong, the Vietnamese woman accused of killing the half-brother of North Korea's leader.

Teh told the court the rejection of Vietnam's request was "perverse", and a case of discrimination, as the attorney-general had favoured one party over another, since the court had ordered both to enter their defence.

Huong and Siti Aisyah were charged with killing Kim by smearing his face with VX poison at Kuala Lumpur airport in 2017. The other, Indonesian national Siti Aisyah, was freed Monday in a surprise ruling and returned to Indonesia hours later. He said prosecutors were being unfair to Huong as her case was similar to Aisyah.

Vietnam's call had followed Monday's release, at Indonesia's request, of an Indonesian woman, who had been accused along with the Vietnamese, Doan Thi Huong.

"The whole extended family was expecting Huong to be freed and sent home, but that was not the decision, so we are very sad", he told the Vietnamese Service of Radio Free Asia (RFA), a sister news service of BenarNews, from northern Nam Dinh province.

"We regret the fact that the Malaysian court did not set free Doan Thi Huong immediately", foreign ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said, urging a fair trial.

"It's our complaint that the public prosecution has not acted fairly and justly to Doan Thi Huong", her lawyer Hisyam Teh, who asked for an adjournment on the grounds that his client was unwell.

Earl Thomas and Ravens agree on $55 million deal
The Browns felt good about their chances of landing Thomas, Jason La Canfora with CBS Sports reported Tuesday night. Shortly after being released, Weddle signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Rams .

Given her mental and physical condition, the judge accepted her lawyer's assertion that Huong was in no condition to take the stand and give evidence in her own defence, agreeing to postpone the case until April 1.

Four men from North Korea who were suspected of being behind the attack fled Malaysia the day Kim was killed, leaving Huong and Siti Aisyah the only two people in custody in relation to the crime. Aisyah and Huong have said they thought they were taking part in a prank for a TV show.

A Malaysian prosecutor said yesterday that Huong, 30, would remain on trial for the gruesome murder of Mr Kim Jong Nam with a toxic nerve agent at a busy Kuala Lumpur airport in 2017. There was security camera video of Huong with Kim.

The go-ahead was given by the Malaysian attorney general, the court was informed.

"My message to the other woman workers, please don't easily trust the others".

On March 12, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh talked over the phone with Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah to discuss several issues, including the trial of Huong.

"You can look at her, she was crying this morning, she was depressed, and she didn't sleep, perhaps did not eat well as well", he said. It was not until the following year that Kim Jong Un made a dramatic foray into diplomacy, holding his first historic summit with Trump in Singapore and also meeting the leaders of South Korea and China.
