Is this outfit inappropriate for flying?

Emily O'Connor

An airline has apologized to a 21-year-old woman for threatening to offload her from a flight for wearing "inappropriate" attire.

On boarding the aircraft, she exchanged pleasantries with the cabin crew, and walked along the aisle to her seat.

The story featured in British national television and newspapers.

Speaking to BBC News, a Thomas Cook spokesman said the airline was "sorry" to have upset Miss O'Connor.

According to Ms O'Connor, she had already been through all stages of the check in and security process when, on entering the plane, airline staff told her that she would have to cover up.

Yet once she boarded the fight, at least four staff members surrounded her and prepared to forcibly remove her from the plane if she didn't change.

She challenged the staff. She wrote, "I informed the staff that there is no "appropriate wear" policy stipulated online".

"I stood up on the flight and asked if anyone was offended, no-one said a word..."

She then told BirminghamLive: "I have never felt so vulnerable or humiliated, it was horrific".

O'Connor said a male passenger on board shouted: "Shut up you pathetic woman. Put a fucking jacket on". "It was the worst experience of my life", she wrote on Twitter.

Eventually, she put on a jacket belonging to her cousin, who was also on the flight.

"It was so mortifying", she tells Yahoo UK. "It was all I could talk about". A gent two rows behind me was wearing shorts and a vest top and nothing was said to him.

Her outfit consisted of a crop top and high-waisted trousers, reports CNN. She did not immediately respond to a message from The Post requesting comment. As long as you can't see her nipples it doesn't really matter!

Emily O'Connor was told she would be removed from the plane because of her "inappropriate" outfit - high-waisted pants and a crop top.

Many on social media expressed their anger over the situation in support of the young woman. Or an even bigger question still, why does anybody give a flying (yes I know what I did there) fuck what anybody else wears?

Liz added: "I don't want to criticise you Emily but we live in a world today where we get all these sexy selfies".

He said: "It's clear we could have handled the situation better".

A different cabin crew member then said: "If you don't get changed we're putting you off the flight". The policy is applicable to men and women of all ages, it said, adding that airline crews face the "difficult task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right".

"Our crews have the hard task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right".
