Scientists: Apple AirPods and Wireless Headphones May Cause Cancer, Brain Damage

FEAR Scientists say there is a potential cancer risk

The closeness of this radiation to the brains of the users is cause for concern, say the researchers.

Neither Apple's AirPods nor any other wireless headphone product was mentioned in the petition, and one researcher says riling people up with scary headlines doesn't do any good.

The report also revealed that about 250 scientists signed the petition, which warns against numerous devices that emit radio frequency radiation, which is used in Wi-Fi, cellular data and Bluetooth. Scientists are warning that microwave radiation from many popular wireless technologies could pose serious health risks, this petition has quickly collected 250 signatures.

Advent of new wireless technologies are outpacing research and regulation, and its effects could have unsafe even disastrous health effects, such as the untested 5G posed to roll out using broader and far stronger signals than ever before.

However, the petition isn't new - it originated in 2015 - and specifically calls out non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (used in all Bluetooth devices), as well as radiofrequency radiation emitting devices (like cell phones and Wi-Fi) as risky.

Many mobile phone users have abandoned their old fashioned earpiece to embrace the new wireless air pods that offer more functionality and style. The document also brings up recent findings by The International Agency for Research on Cancer, suggesting that EMF "possibly" has "carcinogenic" effects on humans, since high levels EMF can increase heat and thereby boost cell growth in human bodies.

"Bluetooth could open the blood-brain barrier that evolved to keep large molecules out of the brain, since the technology tends to be low-intensity", said Moskowitz.

University of Colorado professor Jerry Phillips told Medium: "My concern for AirPods is that their placement in the ear canal exposes tissues in the head to relatively high levels of radio-frequency radiation".

The petition too said The International Agency for Research on Cancer determined recently that EMF to humans is 'possibly carcinogenic'. These forms of energy are powerful enough to shake up atoms that compose cells but not powerful enough to change their structures, which means their radiowaves are less unsafe than radiation from X-rays or UV, but are still risky.

The petition signed by the scientists notes that children are more vulnerable to the effects of EMF.

"By not taking action, the WHO is failing to fulfill its role as the preeminent worldwide public health agency", the experts wrote.
