James Gunn reinstated as 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' director

Months after being fired over old tweets, James Gunn has been rehired as director of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3". Gunn will now reportedly film "Guardians" after he finishes the sequel film.

James Gunn has been reinstated as director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He will then move onto Guardians once he completes work on the DC supervillain team-up.

IndieWire has reached out to Warner Bros. for an update on what Gunn directing "Guardians Vol. 3" means for "Suicide Squad 2".

Defending himself back in July last year, 52-year-old Gunn took to Twitter (before the account was deleted), saying: "Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo".

This will please all Guardians of the Galaxy and James Gunn fans and we hope that this gets confirmed by Marvel soon.

Gunn earlier apologized for the tweets, which he called "unfortunate efforts to be provocative". Post firing, Disney President Alan Horn met Gunn on a few occasions to discuss the whole matter.

Facebook Loses Longtime Product Chief as It Revamps Strategy
Cox joined Facebook in 2005 and is largely responsible for the News Feed, one of Facebook's foundational features. Media reports cite sources inside Facebook who said the new privacy focus was partially why Cox chose to leave.

"I have regretted them for many years since - not just because they were stupid, not at all amusing, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don't reflect the person I am today or have been for some time", Gunn's statement continued.

After he was sacked, Disney condemned Gunn's past social media posts, which included bad jokes about violence and sexual assault against children.

"It's not to say I'm better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger. Love to you all".

In an interview with the Sun in 2017, Gunn revealed that his involvement with Marvel was going to extend past Guardians 3.

With The Suicide Squad due on August 6, 2021, that should mean Guardians will probably not hit theaters until any earlier than 2023 at this stage.

The first two installments grossed over US$1.6 billion worldwide and in a rare occurrence, the second movie made more than the first.
