Verizon Discloses Pricing for Its First 5G Mobile Service

Verizon has announced that it will turn on its mobile 5G network in Chicago and Minneapolis on April 11

Credit: Tom's GuideThe U.S. carrier plans to turn on its 5G network in Chicago and Minneapolis on April 11, it said in a statement on Wednesday. There's a caveat, of course, as the carrier said only parts of the cities will experience Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service before the coverage is expanded more widely.

Verizon Communications Inc beat rivals AT&T and Sprint in the race to launch the first fifth generation mobile services in two cities in the United States at an additional cost of $10 for customers with existing unlimited plans.

Motorola and Verizon have begun taking pre-orders for the 5G Moto Mod, the addon-accessory for the Moto z3 smartphone introduced past year. If you are already a Verizon customer, just buy a Moto Z3 and then place your pre-order for the 5G Moto Mod.

Finally, the last obstacle between you and 5G is a compatible device.

Karlsson signed for a 69, Elvira, Lorenzo-Vera and Van Rooyen went round in 70, and overnight leader Wilson finished with a 71. It was another disappointing tournament for a man who is developing an unfortunate habit of being able to finish the job off.

To start the Moto Z3 with a 5G Moto Mod attached is the only device that can connect to Verizon's 5G network.

It's worth keeping in mind that you'll need to be on one of Verizon's Unlimited plans to even pre-order the 5G Moto Mod when those open up tomorrow, as explained in an FAQ about the add-on. The first three months of access will be free.

This is great news because it means there will actually be a working 5G network to use the handful of new 5G smartphones launching this year on. In Minneapolis, the initial coverage areas are Downtown West, Downtown East, Elliot Park and close to the Verizon store in the Mall of America.

Nevertheless, 5G will be faster than what's available today and for that, you'll have to pay. After the pre-order period, it'll return back to its regular $350 sticker price, which is a bit pricey if you ask us. "While we have been clear that 5G service will be a significant [upgrade] over 4G LTE when it comes to speed and latency, we'll provide expected network performance information closer to launch". Samsung will eventually launch Galaxy S10 5G as a timed Verizon exclusive, but that won't be arriving until sometime this summer. Sprint (s) has said it will offer 5G starting in May in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Kansas City but hasn't disclosed pricing.
