A mic'd up Christian Hackenberg kept cursing during his terrible AAF debut

The Jets selected Hackenberg out of Penn State in the second round of the 2016 draft. He was traded to the Oakland Raiders in May of 2018, but was cut in June, then signed and cut by the Philadelphia Eagles before spending two months on the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad last season. So it's fun. I thought the league has done a great job so far.

The first set of games came this weekend, and Hackenberg was the starting signal caller for the Memphis Express against the Birmingham Iron on Sunday afternoon.

Quarterbacks are mic'd up in the AAF, but Hackenberg seemed to forget that. They produced some exciting matchups and a great set of highlights to sell to fans in hopes that they'll tune in throughout the National Football League offseason with three particularly compelling teams emerging: the Orlando Apollos coached by Steve Spurrier, the Birmingham Iron coached by Tim Lewis and the Arizona Hotshots, operating under the watchful eyes of Rick Neuheisel.

Hackenberg was picked off when he attempted to throw across the middle of the field with his team trailing by three late in the first quarter and the ball near midfield.

Hackenberg finished the game 10 of 23 passing for 87 yards and an interception. The Express offense must sort itself out soon, as they next face the upstart Arizona Hotshots. Find out as host Tom Downey takes you through everything you need to know about the AAF football league.
