"This is the second severe injury in as many weeks and will likely inflame tensions between the government and the yellow vest movement", Beardsley reported.

The movement of the "yellow jackets" holds protest rally for the 13th time, as usual, at the end of the week.

One participant's hand was severely injured when he tried to pick up a so-called sting-ball grenade used by police to disperse crowds with teargas, a police source told Reuters.

She said: "The Yellow Vests did not see themselves in any of the politics in France".

About 55,000 protesters were involved in this week's yellow vest demonstrations.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio has defended his controversial meeting with Yellow Vests protesters, which prompted Paris to recall the French ambassador from Rome and sparked a crisis in bilateral ties.

Paris police said a demonstrator lost four fingers when riot officers stopped protesters from storming the National Assembly.

Although, the eurozone's second largest economy's president, Emmanuel Macron had promised an exhaustive mining of new jobs during taking the office in 2017, Macron's attempts appeared to be pulled back since last Autumn upon exposure to violent protests, which initially introduced as a "Yellow Vest" protest to deduce taxes on energies such as oil.

Protests also took place in other French cities, including Marseille, Montpellier, Bordeaux and Toulouse, the BBC noted.

Politicians from across the political spectrum condemned the arson attack on the home of Richard Ferrand, a close ally of Macron and president of Parliament's Lower House.

Ferrand published pictures on Twitter of his scorched living room, writing: "Nothing justifies intimidations and violence towards an elected official of the Republic".

"The government has to come out of its virtual reality and enter the real world", said Annamaria Furlan, the head of the Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions Cisl.
