Steven Wright Red Sox avoid arbitration with one-year deal

American League MVP Mookie Betts, who went to a salary arbitration hearing and beat the Boston Red Sox a year ago, settled for $20 million this time around, a league source familiar with the agreement told ESPN on Friday.

His efforts paid off in a big way, as Betts is now coming darn close to doubling his salary for the upcoming 2019 season.

We're a couple hours past the deadline at the time of this writing and deals have yet to be announced for some of the arbitration-eligible players. Those who could not come to terms with teams are expected to head to an arbitration hearing.

Fresh off his 2018 MVP campaign, Betts, a second-time eligible player, almost doubles his pay from the $10.5 million deal he struck with Boston to avoid arbitration prior to last season.
