Driver crashes while doing "Bird Box challenge"

Driver who crashed while blindfolded was participating in ‘Bird Box Challenge’

There were no injuries reported in connection with the crash.

A newly-licensed Utah teen is facing reckless driving charges after she blindfolded herself while driving and crashed into oncoming traffic in an attempt to perform the "Bird Box Challenge", a viral stunt inspired by the Netflix hit where people attempt to do everyday tasks without the handy help of vision.

Additional interviews later revealed that the teen was attempting the viral media challenge inspired by Netflix's hit December flick, Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock, in which characters must cover their eyes to prevent themselves from going mad and killing themselves.

Lt. Travis Lyman told Fox13 that the 17-year-old female driver of the pickup truck was driving on the Layton Parkway with a 16-year-old male passenger when she made a decision to take part in the challenge and blind herself using a beanie.

On Friday morning, the Layton Police Department of Layton, Utah shared the images showing the aftermath of a vehicle crash in which one of the drivers was allegedly trying to drive with their eyes covered. One YouTube star also filmed himself driving while blindfolded.

‘We Don’t Take Orders From Bolton’: Pentagon Plans Syria Withdrawal
It also led to major criticism that the US was abandoning its local Kurdish allies amid Turkish threats of an imminent attack. There were no other details, and it was not immediately clear how many vehicles or whether any troop units had withdrawn.

"Honestly I'm nearly embarrassed to have to say "Don't drive with your eyes covered" but you know apparently we do have to say that", Lyman told Fox 13.

Police are screening a charge of reckless driving with the city attorney.

The challenge prompted Netflix to issue a warning tweet on January 2.

Amazingly, no one was injured-though this story could have had a much darker tone had she struck the innocent driver head-on.
