Raptors sign former Golden State Warriors guard Patrick McCaw

Patrick Mc Caw, formerly of the Golden State Warriors has reportedly signed with the Toronto Raptors

The Cavaliers waived McCaw on January 6, making him an unrestricted free agent once he cleared waivers.

The Raptors, who waived Lorenzo Brown on Monday, will welcome McCaw as a depth piece.

Now, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania, McCaw will sign a one-year contract with Toronto for the veteran's minimum of $786,000. It was the end of a weird saga that involved a half-season holdout, an offer sheet, a surprising release, and an ongoing investigation by the National Basketball Association into how it all went down.

The Cavs released McCaw before his deal became fully guaranteed. The NBA had examined the two-year, $6 million offer sheet closely prior to approving it, league sources said, but found no reason to disallow it.

The Warriors didn't match the offer, making McCaw a member of the Cavs.

The Warrior filed a request with the National Basketball Association to investigate whether the transactions qualified as salary-cap circumvention.

McCaw averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game on a stacked Warriors team last season before suffering a scary looking injury in March.

The NBA is continuing to investigate the Cavs' signing and hasty release of Patrick McCaw. After clearing waivers, McCaw chose to join the Raptors for a deal worth only $786,000.

McCaw held out of the Warriors' training camp and the opening half of the season searching for an offer sheet, and he played three games without the benefit of practice for the Cavaliers.

McCaw was sidelined for nearly two months with a bone bruise in his lower back near the end of last season after a horrific fall during a game at Sacramento.
