DNA request made in Cristiano Ronaldo rape case

Report Juventus look to add sleeve sponsor to maximise Ronaldo influence

Officials with Nevada's Las Vegas Police Department have issued a warrant to obtain DNA samples from football player Cristiano Ronaldo as part of their ongoing investigation into rape allegations made by Kathryn Mayorga.

Mayorga claims Ronaldo raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009.

The official who spoke with the Journal said police sent the warrant to court officials in Italy, where Ronaldo plays for the Italian club Juventus in addition to Portugal's national team.

Police in Las Vegas declined to comment on the investigation, which was originally closed in 2009 but reopened days before Ms Mayorga filed a civil lawsuit in September.

While the five-time Ballon d'Or victor has firmly denied the allegations, branding it "fake news", Mayorga's lawyers are now seeking to declare the reported non-disclosure agreement void.

Man arrested after stealing roommate's winning lottery ticket worth $10 million
Adul Saosongyang , 35, is alleged to have switched the card, which he thought was a $10,000 victor , while his roommate slept. The man, whose identity has not been released, returned home, told his roommates about his lucky strike and went to bed.

Mayorga's lawsuit accuses Ronaldo, 33, and his camp of taking advantage of her fragile emotional state to coerce her into signing a settlement and nondisclosure agreement in 2009.

Authorities in Las Vegas would then determine whether it matches genetic material found on Mayorga's dress.

Ronaldo and his lawyers repeatedly denied the claims when they first emerged in October, and at one point his lawyers threatened to sue the German news magazine that was the first to publish Mayorga's accusations. Her attorney says she suffered depression, suicidal thoughts, alcohol abuse and problems maintaining personal relationships and employment. The documents which purportedly contain statements by Mr. Ronaldo and have been reported in the media are complete fabrications.

Nike, which has had a contract with Ronaldo since 2003, said at the time it was "deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations" and would "continue to closely monitor the situation". She reported the assault to police the day after but did not pursue the case, and says she was paid $375,000 to keep quiet about the night.
