Bernard Tomic wins first clash with Nick Kyrgios Kooyong Classic

Nick Kyrgios&apos Brisbane International campaign was brief and controversial

Bernard Tomic won the battle of Australia's tennis bad boys with a comical trick serve through his legs at the Kooyong Classic Wednesday, as he and opponent Nick Kyrgios both talked up their chances at the Australian Open.

Lining up for match point, Tomic was bouncing one ball when he flicked another ball between his legs.

Canada's Milos Raonic will face home-nation favourite Nick Kyrgios in the first round of the Australian Open.

With the encounter played in good spirits, Tomic claimed match point when he dished up a freakish trick serve.

Kyrgios said he was happy to see Tomic back in form after missing the 2018 Open with his ranking plummeting to as low as 243 through the year.

Tomic's first set was nearly flawless, while Kyrgios, who has slipped to number 51 in the world, looked a little underdone and struggled to find some rhythm early on.

With his silky hands and superb touch, Tomic broke for a 3-1 lead and then steamed through the first set.

West Ham target Callum Wilson could be long-term solution
Michael Owen is expecting Arsenal to have problems when they take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime. It is understood West Ham will not consider selling him this month because of the difficulties they may face in replacing him.

"Definitely I struggled with a lot of things previous year, my body was one and I was going through some tough times", Kyrgios said.

Chastened somewhat, Tomic began to rebuild his game last season, winning his first title since 2015 at Chengdu last September and he appears to be carrying that momentum forward.

Now ranked 85, Tomic finished the year in style with an ATP title in China.

"It is great to see him back out here as I know he was going through some rough times", world number 51 Kyrgios, who himself has struggled for consistency, added.

"I feel like a veteran at this stage, I just need to make sure the body is right".

"I've been to the fourth round (of grand slams) so many times, two quarter-finals and I've had some tough matches in those rounds".

"I'll worry about that (the Open) come Sunday or Monday, whenever we're finished here", Barty said after storming into the semi-finals on Thursday with a straight-sets defeat of world No.12 Elise Mertens.
