IBM unveils the World's first commercial Quantum Computer

IBM's Q System One quantum computer IBM

"The IBM Q System One is a major step forward in the commercialization of quantum computing", said Arvind Krishna, senior vice president of Hybrid Cloud and director of IBM Research.

Quantum computers have the potential to perform seemingly-impossible computing tasks, but they're still in their very early stages.

IBM was also awarded patents in the fields of Cloud Computing and Blockchains.

The Consumer Electronics Show floor is abuzz with the talk about IBM's standalone quantum computer.

IBM Q System One announced, the world's first commercial Quantum computer system.

Designed by IBM scientists, systems engineers and industrial designers, IBM Q System One has a "sophisticated, modular and compact design optimised for stability, reliability and continuous commercial use".

Vic Fangio Named Denver Broncos Head Coach
We're really excited to be back together". "I feel like the Bears definitely got a defense that can go all the way". ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - In hiring Vic Fangio , the Denver Broncos are returning to a formula they trust.

Later this year, IBM will also open its first IBM Q Quantum Computation Center for commercial customers in Poughkeepsie, New York. "Much of the success in our own ingenuity is facilitated by the innovation of others outside our industry, from three-dimensional printing to quantum computing".

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will use IBM Q systems as part of its quantum information science research to develop and simulate a variety of algorithms for studying strong correlation, environmental coupling, and excited state dynamics in molecular complexes and materials; novel error mitigation and circuit optimization techniques; and theories resembling the standard model in high-energy physics. The company now works with about 80 universities in the United States, Europe and Asia to explore next-generation energy technologies. This means - for the first time ever - universal approximate superconducting quantum computers can operate beyond the confines of the research lab.

Fermilab will use quantum computers for machine learning to classify objects in large cosmology survey applications, as well as optimization techniques to better understand the results of hadron collisions, and quantum simulation to research the potential of studying neutrino-nucleon cross-sections. IBM has, therefore, consolidated all the components of the Q System One into a glass-enclosed, air-tight environment.

According to a January 8 press release, the system - dubbed the IBM Q System One - takes quantum computing from the confines of the research lab into the real world.

In related news, IBM also announced the IBM Q Network, a partnership with ExxonMobil and research labs like CERN and Fermilab that aims to build a community that brings together the business and research interests to explore use cases for quantum computing. Nevertheless, there is a plan to offer partners to the IBM Q Network programme cloud-based access to its quantum computing operations.
