May hails launch of NHS England plan as 'truly historic moment'

Theresa May says new 10-year NHS plan will stop 'slipping' targets

The 10-year plan sets out how the £20.5bn annual budget will be spent, and the government promised it would focus on benefiting patients while helping relieve pressure on already strained hospitals.

In 2015, the Department of Health (as it was then known) promised there would be 5,000 more Global Positioning System working in the NHS in England by 2020. It outlines how Lansley's shake-up has damaged the NHS, which May has previously acknowledged.

Mrs May said that the ambitions set out in the plan, which several experts warned would be hard to achieve, was affordable in part because the United Kingdom would no longer be sending "vast annual sums" to Brussels after it leaves the European Union.

Past year a report found that using AI to diagnose scans for heart disease and lung cancer could save the NHS billions.

The overall increase for NHS England is equivalent to an annual real terms rise of almost 3.5%, around twice the annual increase the NHS has received since 2010.

The long-term plan acknowledges that "while the number of new recruits has been increasing well, the number of early retirements and part-time working has more than offset this". "And while commitments for the NHS to do more to promote public health are welcome, cuts to local government funding for public health services underline the need for a more consistent approach across government to the population's health". They are also concerned that video consultations would undermine doctor-patient relationships. Optical practices in some parts of England are already delivering enhanced eye healthcare services in convenient, community-based locations.

There's a focus to reduce health inequalities in care across England.

Recruiting more staff from overseas in order to minimise the damaging impact of chronic NHS understaffing, which it says is "unsustainable".

Fran Woodard, executive director of policy and impact at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "This plan gives us confidence that providing high-quality cancer treatment and care will continue to be a priority for the NHS, thanks to the significant focus on cancer".

As a result, US crude oil production rose by 2 million barrels per day (bpd) previous year to a world record 11.7 million bpd. The current round of talks are scheduled to continue through Tuesday, with more senior-level discussions likely this month.

Suspicious packages sent to embassies in Australia
The alerts come after Sydney's Argentinian consulate was partially evacuated on Monday after reports of a suspicious substance. An AFP spokesperson said that as the matter is subject to further inquiries, they would not be providing further information.

It's worth noting that in total, community health services, mental health and primary care costs the NHS around £27bn a year, so the allocation for mental health is just less than 10%.

Chief executive of NHS Providers Chris Hopson said there are "a range" of issues central to the success of the NHS that must be resolved through the spending review this year, including social care and public health. Repealing the most contentious sections of the legislation would also "cut delays and costs of the NHS automatically having to go through procurement processes".

A representative from the think tank said this difference was likely to be made up in efficiency savings - but it wouldn't leave the health service with a lot of wiggle room. That test would let CCGs decide who should be awarded the contract, without fearing that they may be sued by a private firm which had seen its tender rejected.

Patients are to be given the option of "digital first" primary care as part of the new NHS Long Term Plan, published today by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

"Whether it's treating ever more people in their communities, using the latest technology to tackle preventable diseases, or giving every baby the very best start in life, this Government has given the NHS the multi-billion pound investment needed to nurture and safeguard our nation's health service for generations to come".

Stevens has previously sought to reassure ministers that revisiting the 2012 act should not necessitate a further shake-up of how the NHS is organised and that well-judged changes would suffice. "What people are interested in are carefully targeted adjustments to the framework", he told the parliamentary magazine the House previous year. As such, in two years time, at least 280,000 people living with severe mental health problems will receive physical health checks, the plan said.

"Labour have long called for this act to be binned and will study legislative proposals carefully".

Chair of the British Medical Association Dr Chaand Nagpaul welcomed the "ideals" set out in the plan, but also said it was "short on detail" on workforce planning.
