‘I’m over it’: Kevin Hart rules out hosting the Oscars

Kevin Hart

Last month, the 39-year-old comedian announced he would not be hosting the upcoming Academy Awards after facing controversy over resurfaced tweets from almost a decade ago which contained homophobic remarks and offensive slurs.

'I'm over that, I'm over the moment, and I'm about today, so if it's accepted, great, if it's not, it's nothing I can control.

Hart later issued an emotional apology to the LGBTQ community for his past behavior and hurtful comments, acknowledging that he was in the wrong and promising to work towards being more accepting and welcoming of criticism in the future.

"We thought it was okay to talk like that [in the past], because that's how we talked to one another", Hart explained. Cohen then said he was "happy" Hart had moved away from using that language himself. "I shouldn't have to prove the levels of love that I'm capable of giving". The openly gay CNN Tonight host covered that conversation and Hart's latest statements. Further, he believes that anyone who wants to continue the discussion and won't accept the apologies that he has already made "means it's a problem with you".

"The fight is the will and want for equality".

He says "because now we're in a space where I'm around people of the LGBTQ community, and I'm now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say 'That sh*t hurt because of what I've been through'".

"The reason why I've passed is that I've addressed it several times", he continued.

Ellen, who has always been an icon in the LGBTQ community, was lampooned for throwing her support behind the comedian afterwards.

Hart and Cranston tried to be as authentic to the characters as they could, the actor said, adding that the film really dives into perceptions, considering the two men come from two very different backgrounds.

"I've said everything I can possibly say and I'm over it".

Hart wants to clarify his message that he is now an ally with the LGBTQ community.

But any goodwill that created was squashed last week when he appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show and attacked the people who he said were out to "destroy" him.

The Academy Awards organisers now have less than seven weeks to find a host.

"They're gonna win if you don't host the Oscars", DeGeneres said, referring to "trolls" online. "You're not getting no more of my energy from it".

Kevin added the landscape of the world has changed now, particularly with the prevalence of social media, and he regrets the way he spoke on his Twitter page.
