Kevin Hart apologises to LGBTQ community for 'hurtful' tweets

Kevin Hart

Following backlash over her interview with Kevin Hart, Ellen DeGeneres' brother, Vance, came to the host's defense on Twitter. "Because now we're in a space where I'm around people of the LGBTQ community, and I'm now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say 'That s-t hurt because of what I've been through'". And I'm going to say it just in case you guys try to take this sh-t and chop it up, I will rebuttal with this f-ing piece right here.

"I said I would much rather step down and apologize again", Hart told DeGeneres this week.

He said: "I'm not debating right from wrong".

"I did ask Kevin, by the way, to come onto the show to talk multiple times, many times during our conversations texting him, but he said he's not interested", Lemon said.

He added, "I don't think it's wrong for people to have their own personal beliefs". If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality, that's the fight. If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality, that's the fight. "I want you to be happy, be gay, be happy.' And then I say as a heterosexual male, if I can do something to stop my son... that's where the joke starts!" "I can move forward or I can't, but you can't grow as a person unless you make mistakes".

He continued, "If you don't want to accept people for their change, then where are you trying to get to the equal part?"

When given the ultimatum last month - apologize or the Academy could seek a new host- Hart originally declined because he said he was not the same man who tweeted the offensive remarks a decade prior.

He has also made anti-gay comments in his standup in the past, including saying during a 2010 special that, "If I can prevent my son from being gay, I will".

After Hart's apology, DeGeneres revealed she called the Academy. He wants us to accept him. "What does that mean?' And then they break down the way things should be said". The host then went on to say she would like Hart to emcee the Academy Awards despite the controversy.

Kevin Hart apologized for his resurfaced homophobic tweets on his SiriusXM show Straight from the Hart.

"That's why they [The Academy] haven't found another host".

"I feel like if you're not homophobic anymore, you shouldn't mind apologizing for your past homophobia again", one Twitter user wrote.
