Amazon reaches 100 million milestone with Alexa

Amazon confirms Alexa device sales numbers, and it’s a lot

Amazon still has nearly three times the smart home support of GoogleReally, though, the big contributor to Google's billion Assistant devices is Android phones.

Samsung has announced that users will soon be able to control its upcoming QLED sets with either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Moreover, Samsung's new panels will now take commands from Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa if you already have a supporting smart speaker. Find out more about what the two competing companies are doing at CES 2019. Both Alexa and Google Assistant will be able to Control volume, switch inputs, launch an application of the users choice or turn off or on the television. Because Siri and Google Assistant come preinstalled on most mobile devices and only some would consider replacing them with either Alexa or Cortana, the global majority is still small. Anyone that buys an Echo or Google Home speaker is definitely using the service, but I'm sure there are tons of people with Android phones who don't have the Assistant set up.

As well as Amazon's own line of Echo speakers, the number also includes the 150 third-party products that have Alexa built in such as the Sonos One speaker and the Bose QC35 II headphones amongst many others.

Alexa will focus on becoming more conversational and generally less awkward to use. At least on that front, Google is the clear victor, with support for 30 languages in 80 countries, while Alexa now supports just five languages. For example, SmartThings, a smart home device from Samsung, one of Amazon's key competitors in the tech space, has the option to be enabled by Alexa.
