Apple will reportedly start to assembly iPhone X models in India

The work would take place at Hon Hai's plant in Sriperumbudur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, this source added.

Foxconn, which already makes phones for Xiaomi Corp in India, will invest 25 billion Indian rupees ($356 million) to expand the plant, including investment in iPhone production, Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister M C Sampath told Reuters.

Apple is bringing its iPhone production to India partially thanks to the looming threats and impacts of the China-U.S. trade war.

Reuters today reported that Apple's main manufacturing partner Foxconn will start assembling high-end iPhones in India from 2019. This second manufacturing unit outside of China by Apple is also considered as a smart move to help the Cupertino tech giant in a trade war between the USA and China, which reduces the impact on Apple, the report suggests.

The flagship iPhones are not the first iPhones to be assembled in India. Another insider revealed Apple is proactively pushing for the move to limit any eventual impact from the trade war that is now going on between the United States and China.

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIPR) is the organization that did the study and according to it, the iPhone XR sold as much as 32% of all iPhones sold in the USA in a particular period in October 2018, just about a month after the release of the device. If that goes ahead, it will be one of the biggest recent steps by a major company to secure an additional production base outside of China.

After reports emerged that iPhone is suffering from weaker sales, Apple's vice president of product marketing Greg Joswiak said that iPhone Xr is the most popular iPhone but did not disclose any sales figure to back up his claims.

Apple shocked investors last month with a lower-than-expected sales forecast for the Christmas quarter that jolted parts suppliers across the world.
