IPhone XR made up 32% of iPhone sales in its first month

iPhone XR Accounted for 32 Percent of Total iPhone Sales in First Month of U.S. Availability

Its sales in India have also been focused on lower-end phones - more than half of its sales volume is driven by models older than the iPhone 8, launched a year ago, according to technology research firm Counterpoint. There's a catch, though, as it requires a trade-in of an iPhone 7 Plus device launched two years ago.

Cupertino-based computing giant Apple will begin assembling high-end iPhone models - like the iPhone X - in India in 2019, according to a source who spoke with Reuters. It was, however, higher than the 30 percent unit share the iPhone X managed in the first 30 days of it going on sale in the United States.

As mentioned, the XR made up 30 percent of USA iPhone sales in November.

That's significantly lower than the 39 percent share captured by the comparably priced iPhone 8 and 8 Plus during the similar period past year, the study notes.

Musk's SpaceX successfully deploys US GPS satellite into orbit
The network now features 31 operational satellites, which orbit about 12,550 miles (20,200 kilometers) above Earth. SpaceX was initially planning a total of 22 launches this year, thus missing its target by a very small margin.

The 32 percent share of iPhone sales for the XR model compares favourably to the 30 percent share for iPhone X in the similar timeframe last year, but lags the combined share of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus during that period last year, the report said.

Truth be told, the news shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, especially given that Apple executive Greg Joswiak a few weeks back revealed that the iPhone XR has been Apple's "most popular iPhone each and every day since the day it became available".

"It appears that iPhone XR did serve to attract current Android users", said Mike Levin, CIRP Partner and co-founder. "But based on the pricing and features, we can infer that Apple positioned the iPhone XR to appeal to potential operating system switchers".

It would take a particularly appealing product (or set of products) to change that norm, and it seems Apple may have finally created just such a device with the iPhone XR. In November, this just-launched model made up 30 percent of Apple's USA sales, slightly higher than the iPhone X in Nov. 2017.
