Elon Musk's SpaceX Postpones Launch of First Air Force Mission

This abort was triggered by the onboard Falcon 9 flight computer a SpaceX official said

The four launches planned for Tuesday were all rescheduled for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Blue Origin is now targeting a Friday launch for its resuable New Shepard rocket and space capsule.

SpaceX is the first one on the launchpad with a Falcon 9 rocket scheduled to take off at 9:11 a.m. local time from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

SpaceX sued the U.S. Air Force in 2014 in protest over the military's award of a multibillion-dollar, non-compete contract for 36 rocket launches to United Launch Alliance, a partnership of Boeing and Lockheed. SpaceX has stated that the earliest that they will attempt to get the payload on its way to orbit will be on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 at 9:07 a.m. EST (14:07 GMT). Launch has been pushed back a day in hopes of better weather.

SpaceX scored the contract for the satellite following the settlement of its lawsuit against the Air Force, which argued for more competitive bidding contracts. The capsule will be uncrewed and will be taking a NASA-sponsored payload into space.

According to a press release from SpaceX, "The United States Air Force's first GPS III satellite will augment the current constellation of 31 operational GPS satellites". All the technical issues were all overcome, and then rockets were launched. SpaceX first halted the launch on Tuesday due to the same technical warning with its sensor. "Slating next launch window NET Friday 12/21 pending further review".

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the GPS III SV01 navigation satellite for the US military stands atop its launchpad ahead of a December 18, 2018 launch attempt from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. He said the company would be using its Falcon 9 Block 5 to launch the satellite and added that it was the same equipment that SpaceX would be using to launch astronauts to the International Space Station come 2019.

But a third rocket Arianespace's Soyuz was still slated to send up a military satellite for France.

The GPS satellite launch was originally scheduled for 2014 but has been hobbled by production delays, the Air Force said.
