PSG to snatch City target De Jong

Frenkie De Jong has been linked with a host of top clubs

Paris Saint-Germain win the race for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to a report.

Only in De Jong's case, it appears that has happened - and it's those Parisian's again.

The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated young players in world football and he, along with teammate Matthijs De Ligt, has been linked heavily with possible moves to Barcelona and Manchester City.

De Jong admits that Manchester City and Barcelona both play a brand of football which appeals to him, and he names Lionel Messi as "the best" because he can do everything. Ajax director Marc Overmars has admitted to holding talks with the French giants and they are willing to pay the asking price recently set by the former Arsenal winger.

'There are so many I look at, especially the midfielders. There are so many to learn from.

De Jong, who moved to Ajax from Willem II in 2015, has scored twice in 22 appearances for his Dutch club this season.

Mbappe has been keen on the club bringing De Jong to France to take up the playmaker role.

De Jong has been compared to Dutch great Johan Cruyff in terms of his talent, even if his specific skillset means he is not the same kind of player.

'I want to finish this season well with Ajax, ' he added. 'Then we will see. "In the winter I will not leave anyway".

De Jong has been capped five times by the Netherlands and played a key role in their Nations League campaign where they next face England in June 2019. But I am not sure, ' he told the paper.

"I don't pay attention to it", De Jong said.

On praise for him from PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, he said: "It makes me happy to hear what Mbappe said about me".
