Jay Gruden Says Redskins Considered Colin Kaepernick

Colt Mc Coy heads to locker room Mark Sanchez in at QB Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Redskins have a quarterback problem.

Redskins quarterback Mark Sanchez entered the game after Colt McCoy suffered a fractured fibula in the second quarter.

The team needs to sign a quarterback to back up Mark Sanchez, the only healthy signal-caller on the roster who was signed by the team just two weeks ago.

Starting quarterback Alex Smith's season ended after he broke his fibula and tibia against the Texans in Week 11.

"He's been discussed for sure", Gruden said. "He's been talked about, but we'll probably go in a different direction".

Good news, Colin Kaepernick fans: Jay Gruden says the Redskins are seriously considering signing the QB!

Kyler Murray Named Heisman Finalist
Tagovailoa has been the favorite for most of the season, but Murray may have passed on him championship weekend. Murray replaced last year's Heisman victor , Baker Mayfield , for the Sooners and has been just as good.

British MPs set to vote on 'contempt of parliament' accusation
Keir Starmer commented: "Today's finding of contempt is a badge of shame for this government". It was not clear whether the Opposition parties would now push for that.

Bulls fire head coach Fred Hoiberg
It's a major step for the team who are finally starting to get a few healthy starters into the lineup as the new year approaches. The 7-foot Markkanen is perhaps the centerpiece of Chicago's rebuilding plan, but Hoiberg won't be around to see it through.

"Just football, strictly football", Gruden said.

Added Gruden: "You want to have somebody with a similar skillset to the quarterback you have. That's why we went with Sanchez". There's reported interest that the Redskins would never bring him in. Sanchez being with [offensive coordinator Matt] Cavanaugh helped out a lot. There are various read option plays he ran in San Francisco that the Redskins could easily incorporate. "If it was Week 1, there would be a better possibility". But with four games left, it's harder to alter a system.

"It's about evaluating the skill set", Gruden said. "It's very hard. Whoever the backup is, they have to have skill sets similar to Mark, that he can fit into the plays we're going to run vs. the Giants".

In one career start at FedEx Field, Kaepernick passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a blowout 49ers win in 2013. He threw an interception and fumbled once, though he recovered the ball.

Gruden said McCoy would not go on injured reserve immediately because there is a slight chance he might be able to return to action by Week 17. Gruden said there's a chance McCoy would be ready for the December 30 finale vs. Philadelphia. And yet again, they have the opportunity to essentially end the season of an NFC East rival and keep pace with the resurgent Cowboys.

Several owners, coaches and team executives have been called to testify, and the case is scheduled to go to trial.
