Matt Ritchie relieved after incredible miss as Newcastle cling on to win

Burnley vs Newcastle delayed by half an hour due to medical emergency

Kick-off in the Premier League match between Burnley and Newcastle United has been delayed by 30 minutes following a medical emergency at Turf Moor.

The score was already 2-1 at the time, with Ritchie having set up Ciaran Clark for Newcastle's second goal in the 23rd after an own-goal by Ben Mee put the visitors in front in the fourth minute on Monday.

Sam Vokes pulled one back for Burnley shortly before the break with a looping header from 15 metres, with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka caught out of position after a long ball by Mee.

More poor defending contributed to Newcastle's second goal, an unmarked Clark heading in Ritchie's cross.

Clark then flicked the service of a short corner across goal and inside the back post.

DeAndre Yedlin made an ingenious steal on the right flank, and Hart's partial save looked to have goal written all over it only for Matt Ritchie to miss from within two yards of the near post.

But the game changed with a goal out of nothing for the Clarets in the 40th minute.

Ayoze Perez then took exception to an arm in the face from Steven Defour, although it appeared accidental, and referee Anthony Taylor kept his cards in his pocket. There were some moments of really good play so looking beyond the result then we're starting to come back to what we think we can be.

Only Ritchie will know how he did not restore their two-goal advantage five minutes in.

With the goal completely open in the 50th minute, Ritchie sliced a sidefooted shot with his favored left foot into the side netting from inside the six-yard box.

Wood's third chance was the best of the lot but he got his connection all wrong when Aaron Lennon cleverly hooked the ball back and sent it flying over the bar.

Newcastle have finally secured their first away win of the season at the sixth attempt of trying, with the victory taking them above Huddersfield Town and West Ham in the league.
