It Would Be "Impossible" To Renegotiate Brexit Withdrawal Deal Warns Italian MEP

Treasury won't tell us costs of Theresa May's Brexit

The European leaders on Sunday endorsed the Brexit deal at the EU summit in a major breakthrough since the lengthy Britain-EU Brexit negotiation started one and half years ago.

Theresa May will stage the make-or-break vote on her final Brexit deal on Tuesday 11 December after a marathon Commons debate in which the prime minister hopes to turn around the 89 Tory MPs who say they can not support it.

"No-one knows what would happen if this deal doesn’t pass".

"There is not a better deal available", May told the House of Commons. "It would open the door to more division and more uncertainty, with all the risks that will entail".

Mrs Merkel, speaking in Brussels, said: "it's a historic day, which triggers very ambivalent feelings ... it is tragic that the United Kingdom is leaving the European Union now after 45 years, but we have to, of course, respect the vote of the British people".

The nearly 800-word message is an attempt to speak directly to the public to build support for her deal, which faces widespread opposition at Westminster including from both wings of her Conservative Party and the Democratic Unionist Party which props up her administration.

The deal is unpopular with EU-supporting MPs but also hardline eurosceptics - such as Jacob Rees-Mogg who wanted to trigger a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister.

The E.U. gave U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May 's finalizeddraft of withdrawal the thumbs up, to the dismay of many.

But the Labour leader said Mrs May had brought home a "botched deal that was a bad deal for the country" and that "ploughing on is not stoic, it is an act of national self-harm". The IoD's director general Stephen Martin said the deal "provokes a wide range of reactions across the political spectrum, and indeed among business leaders, but the steer from our members is that avoiding no deal must be the main priority".

The French President outlined European plans that would see Britain forced into the backstop unless Mrs May concedes access to the UK's fishing waters in the future deal.

The research was undertaken by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) and commissioned by the People's Vote campaign.

Dozens of Conservative legislators say they will reject the deal, either because they want a harder or a softer break with the EU.

"It is no surprise some are already trying to lay down markers again for the future relationship, but they should be getting used to the answer by now: it is not going to happen".

The PM told her Cabinet at a meeting on Monday morning that Sunday's endorsement of the Withdrawal Agreement and Future Framework was "a significant moment" which had proved wrong those who said it would not be possible to reach a deal.
