Knicks coach Fizdale pleasantly surprised by Porzingis progress

Kristaps Porzingis

After stories published Thursday afternoon cited Porzingis' lack of progress, he posted Instagram photos in which he appeared to be sprinting at an outdoor track.

The coach said Porzingis was limited to shooting and light jogging and wasn't up to running at a full sprint yet.

New York Knicks coach David Fizdale said on Friday that he wasn't aware that Kristaps Porzingis had been sprinting as part of his rehab from last season's ACL surgery, after Fizdale's comments the day before led to a misunderstanding that left Porzingis frustrated over the perception of his recovery.

Kristaps Porzingis had surgery for a torn ACL nine months ago.

Any chance of Porzingis returning this season does not look great, especially considering the Knicks will play it as safe as possible so they have him at 100% for the 2019-2020 season, where they hope to be much more competitive.

Boeing 757 crash-landing in Guyana injures 6 passengers
The plane had 118 passengers, two infants and eight crew members on board. Boeing said it was looking into the incident.

Since the Knicks did not ink him to a contract extension, Porzingis will become a restricted free agent in July. "It's just one of those injuries we're going to take our time with, make sure it's right". The Knicks do not have a specific timetable for his return.

To his credit, Fizdale did say.

"I'm looking at these guys [who are available to play] right now. I've got to lock in on these young bucks, keep them up to par".

ESPN's Ian Begley tweeted out Fizdale's statements on him being caught unaware of his player's rehab progress, and how he and Porzingis have already talked it out with each other.

"I think how he took it was that people thought he wasn't busting his hump, he took it personally, it got to him that people would think that", Fizdale said. "I can see instantly how he fits, but I'm just trying to keep my mind focused on them".
