Government nails Prophet Magaya

Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa

Zimbabwe's largest newspaper, the Harare Herald, reported that his claims were scientifically baseless and that the Zimbabwean Government was actively discouraging the purchase of unapproved medicines.

The State alleges that just before the search, Magaya allegedly destroyed some of the exhibits by flushing them down his office toilets and burning some of the containers which were, however, recovered half burnt.

Prophet Magaya said, "We have engaged the Ministry". He will be back in court on November 29.

Magaya on Thursday held a joint press conference with the Ministry of Health and Child Care focusing on his Aids cure claim.

"He further made claims on Aretha Medical website www.arethamedical.com and that Aretha medical and himself were manufacturers of the Aguma medicine or drug".

The raid comes after prophet Magaya during this week's Sunday service announced to his congregation that he had discovered a cure for Aids. Having carried the research from outside the country, I went on to announce the results unprocedurally.

UNAIDS says it is supporting Zimbabwe in its fight to stamp out HIV and AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, starting with informing citizens of their status and working to suppress infection through treatment.

"We wrote to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and they said they would work hand-in-hand with government rather than individual-to-individual", Magaya said.

Moyo urged HIV patients in Zimbabwe to continue taking their ARV medication because Magaya's "cure" is untested.

In a statement, World Health Organization representative to Zimbabwe Alex Gasasira said to date, there is no known and proven cure for HIV infection, but effective treatment exists to manage the infection through antiretroviral therapy and drugs. It was also established that neither accused (2) nor Aretha Medical company were authorised by Health Professions Authority to carry out Clinical tests on any human being to prove that Aguma can cure the aforementioned diseases thereby committing an offence.
