Harry and pregnant Meghan - now the Duchess of Sussex - were given the two white baby rompers - one carrying the slogan "piece of my heart" - by staff and volunteers at Lifeline Aotearoa. "Suffrage is not simply about the right to vote but also about what that represents".

Inside a marquee set up on the grass, Meghan smiled as elder Barney Thomas addressed the couple in the Te Reo Maori language, wishing them "kia kaha", or strength, for the baby she is expecting next year.

After visiting the cafe, the royals were whisked away by helicopter for a hike and barbecue in the Abel Tasman National Park, before returning to Wellington to check out the capital's thriving film industry.

The event, at Government House, also saw members of the New Zealand Defence Force perform a haka for the couple.
