Sound mixer working on Tom Hanks film dies after fall from balcony

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police said the man may have suffered a medical event before falling.

Per a Friday report from the Associated Press, James Emswiller, a 61-year-old member of the sound production team, fell over a brick wall on a two-story balcony at an apartment building during a break in filming at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET.

Police say the crew was on a break and Emswiller was also taking a break alone on the deck.

"All of a sudden all of these lights were just everywhere, and they started inching closer toward us shining into the bar, and I was like what is happening out there, and there was just people everywhere, people on the curb sitting", Vince Passerini told Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV.

"There were a bunch of fire trucks, like maybe two of three ambulances, it was a large commotion, everyone was staring", said Sarah Pfabe.

The Mister Rogers film, previously titled "You Are My Friend", is inspired by the late children's television icon's friendship with journalist Tom Junod, who wrote a 1998 Esquire profile about him.
