NASA’s Voyager 2 Is Approaching Interstellar Space

Since 2007, the probe passes through the top layer of the heliosphere - the giant "bubble" around the Sun and the planets that are affected by its magnetic field.

According to NASA, the spacecraft has started to detect the same increase in cosmic radiation that hit Voyager 1 just before it finally entered interstellar space. At the same time the unit of measurement level nizkozatratnyh particles has found a similar increase in cosmic rays with higher energy.

Back in 2012, Voyager 1 went through the same stages that Voyager 2 is detecting these months.

Since then, for over a decade now, Voyager scientists were watching and waiting for it to reach the outer edges of the heliosphere-the heliopause.

"We're going to learn a lot in the coming months, but we still don't know when we'll reach the heliopause". A motion from Voyager 1, voyaging at the speed of light, takes 17 hours one way to communicate with Earth. Throughout the Solar System, the wind from the Sun exerts an outward pressure. Some of these cosmic rays are blocked by the heliosphere, so mission planners have been expecting that Voyager 2 will detect that increased cosmic ray activity as the spacecraft approaches and crosses the boundary of the heliosphere.

Atiku Abubakar emerges PDP’s presidential candidate
Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar attends an interview with Reuters in Abuja, Nigeria May 11, 2018. He said, "Honestly, when we compare Atiku with others, you will see him as somebody who has paid his dues".

"We're seeing a change in the environment around Voyager 2, there's no doubt about that", Voyager Project Scientist Ed Stone, a physicist at Caltech, said in the statement.

According to the team behind the Voyager 2, this spacecraft is pretty far away from Earth ad nearly 17.7 billion kilometers or 11 billion miles.

Cosmic rays are fast-moving particles that originate outside the solar system. Voyager 2 is still in the heliosheath, or the outermost part of the heliosphere.

An interstellar analysis is a space detection that has left or is likely to adieu the Solar System and infiltrates interstellar space, which is commonly well-defined as the region ayond the heliopause. Accordingly, the difference in locations between the two space probes might indicate a different exit timeline for Voyager 2 in comparison to Voyager 1. The only thing I can say with certainty: "we're not quite there yet". The information they have returned to Earth has revolutionized the science of planetary astronomy, helping to resolve key questions while raising intriguing new ones about the origin and evolution of the planets in the solar system.

When the Sun is at minimum - which we're now closing in on - its activity levels are low, and the Solar wind is slower.
