Tropical Storm Leslie strengthens to hurricane 810 km from Bermuda

Subtropical Storm Leslie reforms in the Atlantic

Leslie remains a large tropical storm, with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 290 miles (465 km) from the center of the tropical cyclone.

NHC forecasters say that a slower northward motion is expected to occur today, but Leslie will make a sharp turn toward the east and east-southeast over the weekend.

Leslie could become a weak hurricane based on the latest forecast, but it will not threaten land as a tropical system.

This storm does not pose a threat to Florida or the USA, but swells generated by Leslie will create life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along our east coast for most of the week.
