Aston Martin IPO orders below 19 pounds/share risk missing out - bookrunners

The deadline for orders was 11am GMT on Tuesday

Aston Martin was floated on the London Stock Exchange at 8 am of Wednesday 3 October (12.30 pm today in India), with an initial offer price of £19 (Rs 1,807) per share - valuing the British vehicle maker at £4.33 billion (Rs 41,203 crore).

Shares in luxury automaker Aston Martin fell as much as 6.5 percent on their market debut in London on Wednesday as investors and analysts raised concerns over its ability to deliver an ambitious roll-out of new models.

Only 25 percent of the company was floated, with a total 57 million shares being listed. Already as part of its turnaround Aston Martin has introduced the DB11, the new Vantage, the DBS Superleggera, and a pair of mid-engined hypercars are also coming - the Valkyrie co-developed with Red Bull Racing, and another that was recently announced.

Andy Palmer, the chief executive of Aston Martin, said: "Today's listing on the London Stock Exchange represents a historic milestone for Aston Martin Lagonda".

Its shareholders, which include Italian investment firm Investindustrial and a group of Kuwait-based investors, sold a quarter of the company's stock in the initial public offering (IPO).

The firm, which has gone bust seven times in its 105-year history, opened with a valuation of £4.3bn, below its initial hopes for a price tag of over £5bn.

Aston Martin has detailed an aggressive plan to double sales over the next three years.

"The British carmaker is in rude financial health".

Brexit was thought of as a potential issue for Aston Martin, but Palmer insists that Britain's impending exit from the union wouldn't have too much of a bearing on the company, saying that it was "relatively well insulated" from the effects of Brexit.

"It’s fair to assume the average Aston Martin buyer is less price-sensitive than your average driver".

"We think increased trade barriers are unlikely to influence a driver's decision to buy an Aston Martin".

He added: "The first public listing of a British carmaker in decades has the kind of dinner party appeal that few IPOs share".

Some of the company's current shareholders, as well as UK-based employees, customers and owners club members, will get preferential offers on shares, or in the case of Daimler, be able to retain its 4.9% stake for another year.
