Labour back second Brexit vote if there's no general election

It would also risk souring relations with the more driven elements of the membership pressing for party reform, who are fearful of being thwarted on other fronts at conference as they battle for more party democracy.

A Labour grandee warned last night that the party faced an "incipient split" after activists cleared the way for a purge of moderate MPs.

"Since that result those unhappy with Brexit have done all they can to spread baseless threats about our future and challenge every aspect of what should be a clean break".

He has always been a critic of the EU's free-trade policies and must also find a way to reconcile the traditional working-class wing of his party, who mostly voted for Brexit, and his own army of younger supporters that want to stay in the bloc.

A senior Labour source said: "After a number of hours of discussion and debate, the composite meeting has agreed a motion on Brexit that will be taken to the conference floor".

"Jeremy Corbyn this morning proved he is not fit to govern our country".

The YouGov survey of more than 1,000 Labour members found 86% support a referendum on the outcome of Brexit talks, against just 8% who oppose it. As delegates gathered, one message was emblazoned on hundreds of T-shirts and tote bags: "Love Corbyn, Hate Brexit".

More than 140 Brexit motions - a record for any single issue - have been submitted to conference by local parties and unions.

Ahead of the vote thousands joined a protest march organised by the People's Vote campaign group yesterday.

Lord Hattersley, who served as deputy leader in Labour's wilderness years in the 1980s, said the party could not survive a factional war.

Injured Griffen isn't at Vikings' loss against Bills because of "personal matter"
Three plays later the defense did its part too, sacking Kirk Cousins - who had a terrible game on Sunday - and forcing a fumble. The Bills, as you would expect, taking a slow and methodical ground based approach to run clock up 27-0 in this game.

Stop Brexit? UK’s Labour Party mulls backing new referendum
He added: 'But I was elected to empower the members of the party. "He's got as much back bone as a jelly fish!" he said. Pro-EU supporters are due to hold a large march as the conference opens on Sunday, calling for a second vote.

Tropical Storm Kirk forms in Atlantic Ocean
Kirk is packing 40 miles per hour sustained winds and its westward motion is expected to accelerate through Tuesday. Some strengthening is forecast through Sunday, with little change in intensity forecast on Monday and Tuesday".

"What comes out of conference I will adhere to".

He declined to say what the question in a second referendum would be, describing the matter as "conjecture".

The comments came on Sunday's Andrew Marr Show, on which he also claimed Labour would be prepared to vote down Theresa May's final Brexit deal in order to force the government back to the negotiating table with Brussels.

The government's proposals, drawn up at the Prime Minister's country retreat in June, push for "common rulebook" aligning the Uk with EU rules and trade regulations, while making demands that we don't fall under the jurisdiction of European courts and no more free movement of people. "For us to now enter some kind of campaign that opens up that issue again I think would be wrong".

A caller lost his temper with the Labour front bench for "changing their stance" on Brexit and the idea of a second referendum.

Corbyn's close ally, Len McCluskey, leader of Britain's biggest trade union Unite, told the BBC any such second referendum "shouldn't be on: 'do we want to go back into the European Union?'" as that had been answered in the 2016 referendum.

Since the 2016 referendum, Labour has stuck to a policy of "constructive ambiguity" in a bid to appeal to both "leave" and "remain" voters.

"Of course we're a democratic party, but before we get that we want a general election, because this government has made a complete fist of Brexit, they haven't been able to negotiate a deal", he said.

Britain's Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn speaks at a vigil for peace in Yemen during the annual Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, Britain, September 23, 2018.

He said: "I voted Remain in the last referendum, I think it is highly likely that I would probably vote Remain in the next one".
